My Baxi Solo 50/4 PF fires up ok but a relay in the control box has started clicking away approx every 5 seconds. At the same time the main burner appears to fade and re-ignite instantly (you can hear it re-ignite with a small whoosh). Is this likely to be a duff PCB or would something be causing the relay to switch? Also, the main burner and pilot are on simultaneously - is that normal?

NB. 3 weeks ago an engineer fitted a new gas valve and renewed the silicon pipes on the pressure switch (at an horrendous cost) following the main burner failing to light.

I have a similar boiler (solo 60) and it had its gas valve replaced for £160 which considering the part was around £80 + vat (I phoned around to confirm the estimated verbal price the guy quoted) I feem was very reasonable. However that was all that was needed to resolve my issue so no idea how much the fitting of the pipes would cost if done at the same time.

I would suggest you contact the fitter and ask him to re-check that its nothing he has done. Don't mention that you think its a faulty pcb otherwise he might simply agree and then charge you £110 +VAT plus fitting for a new one, even though it may not be needed.
