... it was a shot at goal, so other players not in play... and it hit a Chelsea player, before rebounding to Ribery.... off a Chelsea player... so no offside !!!!

I'm still glad Chelsea won though !!!

Do you have a clip ?

If he was in an offisde position and 'gaining an advantage' then it does not matter if the ball came from a Chelsea player.

Shot at goal you can be still be offside away from the ball if pulling a defender /gk away or in the GK's way .

If you are in an offside position before the shot is taken, and that
position allows you to score form a rebound or deflection, then you are offside.

Have a mooch through these -

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_11_offside_en_47383.pdf

However, these are split second decsions by officials and pundits have the luxury of umpteen angles at their leisure.

Handball - it's got to be a case of 'handles the ball deliberately'.

no clip, sorry...great post though.. i thought a player "not interfereing with play" was ok..... and a rebound to him was also ok?

as others have said ...offside
heres a clip thats not the best clip of the goal but the viewing angle is good
as you can see that he is clearly offside when the ball is played in then rebounds off cole

Offside offence

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by:

Interfering with play
Playing or touching the ball

Interfering with an opponent
Preventing the opponent from playing the ball by obstructing the player's sight or intentionally distracting the opponent

Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position
Playing the ball after the ball has rebounded off the goal, the goalkeeper, or any opponent
