BDR91 / Y87RF2024 - No permanent live feed

The Y87RF2024 is just a thermostat; it is not a programmable stat. So the OP still needs the existing programmer.

There is a way to do it, but it all depends on having four wires to the existing stat.

According to Honeywell, when the RFG100 Mobile Access kit that the OP mentions in his first post is added, it also adds programmable stat functions.
  • Install the Single Zone Thermostat with internet control:: just install theRFG100 Mobile Access Kit at the same time
  • Use as a Programmable Thermostat: Once connected, you can also use the Total Connect Comfort App to provide a combined time and temperature profile of 6 time periods a day variable by day for each of 7 days
This would cost the OP of course, hence my suggestion:
Alternatively, take it back and instead buy a wired programmable thermostat and swap it for the existing thermostat.

And when your smart phone, router etc develops a fault you are left with just a thermostat. What then will be the fail-safe condition?

You're getting confused with Tado.... that is internet dependant IIRC>

Thanks all - RFG100 it is then.
The whole idea of the wireless stat is so that it can be in the Living room, as the Landing (where the current stat is) can be a very different temperatures (either much hotter and colder) than the Living room, and I don't really want to start having to get wires to a stat in the Living room and having to redecorate. So a replacement stat. on the landing isn't really the idea - but agree it would be cheaper.
For the moment I'll just leave the ST9400C programmer to be on 24/7 and longer term re-wire so the BDR91 has a permanent live.

Just remember for correct operation, the radiator(s) in the room where the thermostat is sited, should not have Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV's) fitted. All other radiators should have them.

Is your current thermostat on the outside of your airing cupboard?
