Bed bases

I have a mind to get a new double bed base, base only and with storage inside.

Mattress is new and I like it, what are the options?

Present one has a couple of large pull out drawers, but I see they now offer a type with a gas strut, which lifts the whole upper panel up to give access to the entire large bed box underneath. Any opinions?

Something to check in the store I would think, how robust are the struts? They appear to have the advantage over pull out drawers which quickly become heavy and difficult to pull out smoothly or come off the runners.

We've got one with struts, it's a solid well made base. We also have one with drawers. The main advantage, struts over drawers, is that with struts the whole bed base is available for storage.
With drawers, the drawers are usually only at the bottom half of the bed because if they were at the top you wouldn't be able to open because of the bedside cabinets, unless you move the cabinets first.

Yep +1 for struts, we plan on buying another for our guest room which is currently occupied by our grandaughter.
