Hey when bedding a shower tray on sand and cement do people tend to smooth out the mortar before placing the tray on it. Or leave the mortar a similar way to what bricklayers do, so once the trays pressed down it will smooth out.

Thanks do I need to prime the floor with anything before I put the mortar down?

Watched a few videos on youtube and they have smoothed the mortar right out with a plasters trowel before bedding the tray on it. Is this wrong then?

SBR bond is ideal as a primer for concrete, screed or timber

I did not learn my plumbing or bathroom fitting skills via YOUTUBE or Google

Leave it little ruff and push the tray down use a level to check it,this will help it to get into all the voids in the tray

Good luck :D :D

I agree with Hippyplumber.
I've used PVA in the past on wood floors. Then 4:1 mix fairly soft so the tray sits right down into it. Normally use Mira Flight trays now though, they just go down on a bed of silicone, which is a lot less hassle.......

Is the pva used to seal the wood, because the water from the mortar could damage it?
