I'm thinking of painting some (yet to be fixed) larch featheredge cladding, on a building, with Bedec barn paint. Trying to work out how much I need. Tow questions:

Does anyone know how many coats are required? I gather the first coat has to be thinned.

Does anyone have any other paint recommendations?

Cheers

Not used the barn paint but I like the other Bedec paints. Paint all the boards before fixing one coat@ least you don't want shrinking and unpainted bits showing

That's an interesting point. I'm using sawn larch featheredge that has only just been cut. I was wondering about fixing it but not painting for a few weeks/months, so it's had time to lose some of its moisture - is that relevant for paint adherence?

I would think that any timber needs to be seasoned - so fix now and let the timber dry in situ then 2 coats barn paint one thinned. Also there is a way of nailing featheredge so you don't nail the underneath strip and cause it to split when the wood shrinks

I had been going to nail just the top edge, but did a bit of reading last night and discovered that this can apparently allow the wood to curl - so what I'm planning to do instead is just nail towards the bottom of the board, so the nail is above the top of the board below it - as you say.
