I have an old stone cottage where one of the walls is slightly below ground level about one metre. For various reasons this cannot be remedied by digging out the back wall, so need another solution. The inside of the wall is rendered with a sand lime mix over the granite and there is a visible damp line that corresponds with the ground level.

Is there a product that can be applied to the render on the inside that will block the damp which is not attractive on the inside wall? I have looked at various damp proof paints but I believe they require to be applied to the bare stone which is not possible due to the thick lime render already on the inside wall.

Also if there is a product that can be painted onto the lime render to block the damp will it just push the damp line further up the wall?
