Bender marking pipe

Hard to tell, but are you bending a pipe to carry gas? Eg a yellow pvc coated?
 
Wouldn’t have thought a worn guide would do this. Could be the coating.

are you talking about stripping off the plastic?

The guides/former are very accurately shaped to avoid any throating/rippling on the copper when pulling the bend so I would think any extra covering on the pipe would naturally be pinched and then cut as has happened here. Usually any covering would be taken off the pipe first before bending.
