HI all
Just completed on a second home (2bed, through lounge/dinner with kitchen and bathroom in 2 story rear extension) as the wife works 2hrs away 4 or 5 days a week and works 12 hour days when away, but some weeks not at all. Rest of the family will stay sometimes during school holidays.
its an 1850s end terrace with an old'ish combi boiler, and no time/temp working controls (timer on boiler seems broken or unconnected?) other than TRVs (in all rooms except lounge/dinner). Don't want to replace boiler yet (but looking at Intergas combi when required).
So the question is how far (how much) to spend on controls. The ability to remote switch would be a big advantage, as it takes a couple of hours to warm up if she just turns heating on when she gets there. Is there any advantage in zoning a small house, thats not used all the time vs expense of installation.
So far I'm thinking Nest 2 or 3 so it can be monitored remotely. Opentherm seems a eco future proofing feature, but other controllers may have that (it seems to be hidden in the specs).
I found an honeywell evohome cheap here, but seems a overkill if not zoned.

Nest gives added function that a nest smoke alarm can also give remote alerts.
Any thoughts welcome.
