Best compost to use for hanging baskets?

Can anyone advise the best compost to use for hanging baskets and if there is anything i can add to the soil to retain water

Is there any particular brand that is best? I used a specific hanging basket compost last year and the results were not great.

I use the cheapest I can get (b&q 3 bags £10) used it for years, then just add feed pellets.
As far as water retention, I crumple a plastic bag in the bottom, this way it can never fully dry out.

I like the idea of the plastic bag. Will try that one.
