Hi all,
I have an old flat right by the seaside. Had it about 10 years now. Most if not all the plastic switches and sockets are CRUMBLING to the touch now!! WTH is going on??! If I got up in the night and patted around the walls for a switch and found it, my hand will go through the plastic like hot knife thru butter...

The place uses UK standard 220-240V, 50Hz leccy, and I was hoping to take over some of the best of British standard sockets and bits and have em installed over there.

Can someone recommend which brands and standards I should be looking at please?

Climate is 70% humidity, 36 Degree C.
Leccy is 240V Brit standard, as I can use any and all my UK kit over there. They have a UK standard and 3-pin round sockets in a house as a mix.
No aircon or dehumidifiers

I need:
Switches
Sockets
Those variable round switches to control ceiling fans

Warmest Regards

If you are talking about Thailand, you will not be able to just swop the fittings, as they use different back boxes which uk stuff will not screw onto.

No, not Thailand. This is for Sri Lanka - even more obscure!

Backbox issues are not an issue, I can have them reset completely to UK standards

I just need salt water/seaside robust electrical fittings to cart over.

Sounds like you have poor quality fittings there, replace them with some brushed stainless steel ones and you be covered.

Thanks Kai, so the breakdown is not due to my needing a specialist switch, because it is to be used in such a hot, sea side area? Just confirming, cos I can see things happening, if ~~I did buy the SS switches and the plasticky bits behind the scenes did still breakdown?..........hope that makes sense.

What make should I go for? Crabtree any good?
