Last year I decided to spruce up the outside of my downstairs lounge bay window. It was last painted in gloss white about 6 years ago and was flaking a fair amount.
I did some research and decided Ronseal exterior paint seemed like a good idea especially as it it had a 7 year guarantee against cracking. I bought a tin of Ronseal white gloss topcoat and their primer which is recommended to be used with the topcoat.
After sanding down all loose and flaking paint down to bare wood, I applied the primer waited a few hours and applied the top coat. The top coat was rather gloppy and thick to apply. It was difficult to get a smooth finish, but I persisted reassured by Ronseals 7 year guarantee.
Imagine my surprise this year, just over 12 months later and all my hard work was for nothing. The paint has cracked and flaked off worse than ever. Ronseals guarantee appears to be nonsense and I dont think I made any errors in applying the paint.
The window is north facing and shaded so not subjected to strong sunlight.
IM now considering repainting but would like to know a good brand to use that actually lasts a few years.
Al info welcome
