We are currently having our pointing done, and the scaffold is being left up for a couple of months so I can completely redecorate the outside.

The majority of the woodwork is sound, but the existing paintwork needs to be completely stripped back.

Given that I don't want to decorate again for as long as possible, what is the best paint 'system' that can be applied?

The main area that needs to be dealt with is south facing so gets most of the weather/sun.

I'm a big fan of Bedec for exterior paints. Their masonry paint is excellent. They have a good range for various projects.
The south side of properties always take the worst of it, there are not many paint systems that will get you beyond 5-7 years before it starts to get shabby.
