BEST PAINT

Whats the best hard wearing exterior paint, its going on to new marine ply. but i dont want to be painting it every year, is that possible???

I can't give you any kind of scientific comparison, but with really good preparation I get about 5 years out of exterior gloss - using either Dulux exterior or the stuff I get from the trade shop. I have 20+ sash windows and other assorted exterior wood.

Tung Oil ??? What is the plywood for ?

May be worth looking at specialist marine paints such as International or Blakes, they are a bit more expensive but are designed for wet environments.

Do a google for them there is plenty of choice.

It's for the kids playhouse, i made it out of Marine ply so it would last outside and i want a good paint so i am not painting every year.

Where can i look at these Marine paints?????

You can get marine paints from any chandlers which are more often located at either canal or river locations. Try google for your local area.

Screwfix also do a limited range of colours, but I have no idea how good they are compared to the more expensive makes. Their colour range is also quite limited.

If your not bothered about a brightly coloured finish, products such as cuprinol or the oil suggested by masona are easier to recoat in the future because they need much less prep.

Thanks David and Julie, found a local supplyer, and it looks like the Marine paint is the best stuff, but a bit more expensive.

Just one point, on Marine ply apparently you have to use a special primer, as the glue in the ply will affect the paint if not used.
