I was surprised to discover that the gas pipe to my stove takes a very circuitous route, via an area where I have lifted the floor to do other work.
There is a small risk of damage to the gas pipe, e.g. by standing on it or dropping something on it, while working. I’m wondering if there are “best practices” for this situation. In particular, would it be better to turn the gas supply off while working, and back on again when I need hot water or to cook? The meter and main tap are in the same room where I’m working. A disadvantage of turning it off is that I wouldn’t know immediately if there were any damage. Are there any official guidelines for protecting gas pipes during nearby works?
