I have built myself some timber racks in my garage. I made the shelves from crushed burch which costs about £50 per sheet :!:

I then got some plastic crates to sit on the shelves so now I have somewhere to store my wide range of tools - very pleased with myself

However, over time the plastic crates have been chipped, brocken, handles snapped off etc so I'm thinking of making some new crates from timber.

What timber would you recommend?

i would make them from 12mm ply i would take batons 22-25mmx22-25mm
screw and glue these to the base all round then turn upside down so the base is now off the ground
drill pilot holes with a 3mm drill use no6x1 1/2" or 2" or 3.5mmx x40 or 45mm screw and glue
if the boxes are subject to heavy treatment then further batons in the corners glued and screwed

because off the batons on the bottom the will sit happily on wet path or ground without damage for a while[few mins in a puddle half-hour on wet grass]
