Hi

I have a flower border that contains soil which is against the wall of my extension. I suspect because of the level of the soil that it's not helping the damp problem with the walls.

I was going to dig up the soil and back fill with pebbles or stones as this would not hold water/damp soil against the wall.

What type of stones is best for this? Would it be pebbles or the larger cobbles?

wont matter what you put in iff its not free draining you need what ever it is to be 6" below the dpm or risk splash back

Any chippings/gravel will do. Pea shingle may be easiest option.
Take your pick for aesthetic effect.
Don't forget to line the trench with landscape fabric before filling.
