Best washing machines..?

OK, we will be buying a washing machine in the near future and know nothing about them except that some makes are cheap, and some are not !

I assume a Miele or similar is expensive to buy for a reason, so may do a better job of washing, leave clothes drier and last longer, but is that true, and is the extra cost worth it compared to a cheap machine that may only last half as long and not do such a good job.
Obviously there will be horror stories about each and every make and model but if anyone has any thoughts it would be good to hear them !

Bosch, or Miele if you can afford it.

Whatever the brand, the top of the range will have the same build and component quality as the bottom, but will be more complicated so has more to go wrong.

But why JohnD - how are they better ?
Do they do a better job and last longer ?

We don't need anything too fancy, just clean clothes that come out of the machine fairly dry and without burning up a load of electricity !

Oh, and thanks for the reply - at least I have a starting point of which makes to look at !

Both are very good at washing, and Bosch are very reliable, but Miele last longest.

If you go to your local library you can read the Which reports for nothing.

Bosch for general domestic use....anything but those contra rotating drum things from Dyson
