Best Way to Clean an Emulsioned Wall & Ceiling to Recoat ?

Hi

I am looking to have all the walls and ceilings in my house re-emulsioned.

SWMBO wants a different colour !

What is the best way to wash them down in readiness for the painter ?

I know that I can use sugar soap to clean all the painted woodwork.

Can I / should I use sugar soap on the walls and ceilings as well ?
