Best way to re-finish worn vinyl on a bicycle saddle?

After around 5000 miles the black vinyl cover on my bike saddle is wearing and looking a bit ropey. It is in otherwise good nick so I don't want to throw it away. I've seen my neighbour restoring worn leather car seats simply by spraying with a rattle can and wondered if this or some leather dye would be a good idea.

Any suggestions?

It's only plastic so if it's showing signs of knackeredness then I doubt you'll be able to improve it much.
5,000 miles is pretty good for a bike seat so my first suggestion would be to simply replace it, possibly a leather one.
Failing that, you can get cheap covers.

Slap a silicon gell cover over it.Improve comfort as well as appearance.
