HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Would appreciate any advice here..I have just moved into a house that has a powermax 185, about 18 years old. Sometimes it like to give me hot water but not always. BG have replaced the blender valve and as that did not solve the problem they have told me they cant fix it (makes the homecare worthwhile !!! - or not)

So I need a new boiler, I was was going to go for standard boiler, HW tank etc but the guy from BG tells me I need a combi, but does not want to explain why (so he is not going to be getting an order here!)

So rather than rant about BG can someone please help me with

a) Should I go combi or tank etc? Biggest negative for a combi seems to be drop in pressure if more than 1 tap on the go....how much would i expect it to drop by, the same as cold taps running in different rooms at the same time?

b) Mr BG tells me I need a 537 boiler that works at 13l litres per minute, however when he measured the inlet rate it was 18l per minute, why would it not be specified at this rate?

for info ...house is a 4 bed detached. Downstairs = 5 rooms plus conservatory and down stairs toilet, upstairs is 4 beds and 3 bathrooms. 4 people live in the house.

Any advice is very much appreciated

Measuring the open pipe flow rate is of little importance!

Read the FAQ about dynamic flow rate.

You also give up very easily on getting BG to repair the boiler!

Its a relatively simple boiler and I dont see any reason why they should not be able to repair it.

its worth measuring the flow rate from your hot tap at your bath. This will give you some idea what you will be used to. Nothing worse than paying a load of money for something thats worse. Realistically, space depending you will be looking at either a seperate boiler and UV cylinder or a store combi, the former is preferred for reliability and maintenance the later is better if your limited for space.
