I have a biasi 24S combi boiler which just wont light up after coming back from 2 weeks away.
It continually locks out and the red light comes up. It doesnt light up at all and my gas is turned on as my cooker works.
I wont be fixing it myself just want to know what the possible faults could be so I can see what the plumber does when he comes round.

Cheers

Hugh

I had a feeling that might be the next question from reading other posts.
To be honest I have no idea !
When the hot water tap is running (cold) and the red lockout light is lit , the pump vibrates slightly which it doesnt when the tap is off. Also when I reset the lockout a faint noise comes from the pump briefly before it locks out again. But seeing as this my first house/boiler I have no idea whether this means it is working or not.
Regarding the fan , there is extra noise coming from the top of the boiler when the water is running and the red light is on , compared to when the water is running and I turn the boiler off ie still pwered on but not on ch or dwh mode but the redlight is still on.

Hopefully this makes sense and also explains why I wont be fixing it myself !

Thanks

Hugh

The fan only runs after the lock out has been reset ( which must be done with a demand for heat ).

You should be able to hear the whine of the fan, IF its running, immediately after resetting the lockout.

If its not running then thats probably whats failed. Possibly due to water ingress if the flue wrongly slopes upwards, there have been some wild storms lately. Although it could also be the ignition PCB.

If it IS running then there follows the next sequence of possible problems.

Right , I cant see it sparking at any time.

With the boiler not in ch or dhw mode but still powered on , there is the noise of water flowing through the boiler. When I turn it onto dhw mode but with the red lockout light lit , noise increases a bit. And when I reset the lockout , noise increase a lot briefly before it locks out again. To me it sounds like the fan starts up when I reset the lockout but I am not sure what the extra noise is when it turn it onto dhw mode.
This is all with a hot water tap running which is with a demand for heat I assume.

Thanks for all the help so far

We will assume its the fan operating but its better to listen outside by the flue while someone else resets the boiler.

If the fan is NOT running then check the overheat thermostat under the black cover, red pin should be flush, if not push it inand it will start!

Next thing to check is that the test point plugs on the top right surface of the boiler are in place blocking the tubes.

If so and the fan IS running then I would suspect the venturi, APS tubes and APS in that order. If its the old round black plastic APS then it will definately have failed. If its the newer square one its unlikely.

These last three items are gas safety devices and I can only really recommend that they are checked by a CORGI registered engineer.

could be the air pressure switch

With reference to :

Will these tubes be external to the boiler ? There is a tube on the top left which has a plastic plug in , as well as one on the top left which has a plastic screw top.

Thanks
