Hi
I am hoping someone might be able to offer some advice regarding my boiler.
We have a Biasi Combi boiler which for the last week or so has been losing pressure. Generally it' been dropping approx. 0.5bar per day but we've been topping it up thinking we had a small leak.
We've checked everything and there are no leaks.
Yesterday I topped the boiler up and then noticed about an hour later, the house was very hot. Looked at boiler which was set to the temperature of 'Frost Protection' (i.e minimum heat). The temperature gauge was reading 90 !! and the pressure was at 3 bar.
I turned it off completely and when cold turned it on again to check it. The red light was flashing to indicate low water pressure so again I topped it up and checked the overflow pipe by placing a piece of cardboard loosely over the end. Couple of hours later I check the cardboard and it was soaked so at least I know where my water is going.
Last night topped up boiler and turned it on to try to get a little heat in house while I watched it like a hawk. Still on Frost protection, I ran it for 10 mins - temperature got to 90 again so I turned it off.
Today I thought I'd do the same just to get a little heat in the house. Topped it up turned it on - the heating is the same as previous days - temperature rising to 90 and pressure rising to just over 3 bar - no red lights but obviously not right. However, now I seem to have a new issue - if I turn central heating off on the boiler and just let it sit on hot water only - the red light is now flashing and it seems to be firing up with no taps running??
Haven't got a clue whether it is a fixable problem or if all this might mean its time for a new boiler - boiler is about 6 years old. Phoned plumbing and heating engineer but he can't get here until Friday.
Any ideas?
Thanks
