HI

This is my first post here and need some help trying to figure out what might be wrong with my boiler.

I have a Biasi Prisma 24SE made in 1997 and it's just started to play up. The problem is that IF the heating comes on (it doesn't seem to stay on long) the pressure gauge rockets passed 2 bar, at which point we switch off the heating.
Hot water is fine, though it can take about 10-20 seconds to spark up. It sounds like there may be a blockage somewhere, hence the pressure build up, but i don't really know too about these things.
I have no intention of trying to repair it myself as I don't want to mess with gas appliances. I just want to try and get an idea of what could be wrong and how much it might cost so i don't get ripped off.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Cheers for the info, what is a VES?. I presume any heating engineer worth his salt should be able to figure this out fairly quickly, as did you guys :).

as for the
and how much it might cost so i don't get ripped off.

Shall I expect lots of sarcasm  [/quote]

Why, why, why do you assume that you are going to get ripped off???

If you are so concerned why dont you call British Gas on their fixed price repair at about £230. Surely that cannot be ripping anyone off as they are British Gas after all?

Its possible that all you need is repressurising the expansion vessel which you can read all about in the FAQ on this site.

Any independent would be unlikely to charge more than £84 for repressurising. If the expansion vessel is broken then thats less than £50 but can take a while to fit. We would charge a total of less than £190 in most cases!

Please explain why you have such a low opinion of the honesty of boiler engineers?

Hi Tony

Apologies if my comment offends, it wasn't my intention. However, I have little real experience in dealing with such tradesmen. The person who installed the system WAS a friend of the family so i trusted him. So the only other reference I have is, sadly, the TV which depicts all tradesmen as cowboys (which I know is not true). Trouble I don't know which are and which aren't. I have organised an engineer whom I picked from a list on the CORGI website, so hopefully my fears will prove unfounded.

understand the term misrepresentation.

if you honestly think you can believe a single word these fabricators spew then you are a bigger fool than me.

who in their right mind would honestly give a scintiler of credibility to these wh@res who pray on the suseptable niave public?

On what information do you base this claim?

I'm sorry - did a moderator delete the post in which you were asked to advertise your charges?
Did you think you were posting on www.where-pompous-gits-advertise-for-free.co.uk ?

Be aware that those TV programs are for purely entertainment purposes!

They dont set up a situation and call those listed in the Yellow pages! They cannot afford to have 20 honest tradesmen doing repairs!

They only call firms they know from their research are likely to try to rip them off.

Its almost TWO years since I came across a blatent case of a rip off and thats in London. The fellow pretended to fit a new fan but in reality just refitted the old one!

The reality is that 95% of gas engineers do a fairly good job at a reasonable cost.

Its quite possible that you can solve yours yourself with just a car foot pump. The FAQ section will give you all the info you should need.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fool I just like to be prepared. The TV responds to "known" cowboys for veiwers entertainment, that's what we pay our licence fee for - to be entertained!

I agree that 95% of boiler engineers, probably nearer 99%, are genuine and it's the few that give the many a bad rep.

I could also, most likely, do it myself. But it is due a service anyway and i'd feel safer knowing that someone who is trained has done the repair. I will read the FAQ though and see how easy it is.

Thanks again for your advice.
