Hi guys,
Just wanted to know if anyone could help me out with this one.

basicaly I have had a damp problem on the side wall of my house.
The drive way way falling towards the house & bridging the DPC.
Also at the side of the house was very wet Soil \ clay
I have had a new drive way lower than the DPC & falling away from the house & I have removed all the soil away from the house.

But I have left a channel next to the house open.
It's about 10" wide & 12" deep.
Now I want to fill about 85% of this with hard core and then some nice stone on top.

Should I coat the brick work work below floor level \ DPC?
My dad says I should coat it with black jack \ bitumen.
Would black jack trap any damp into the brick and also if I use black jack it on it then place the hardcore next to the wall the sharp stones can cut into the black jack.

So should I treat it or leave at let it breath?

Many thanks guys & girls.

Billy

Hi Billy

We are in a very similar situation to yours and have the same question, so I am just wondering what you ended up doing in the end and how its held up?

All the best,

Emma

Brickwork below the DPC is likely to be inherently damp anyway, and coating it with something won't change this. I wouldn't borher
