Over the last few months a black mould has appeared on the ceiling in the bedroom. I have been into the loft to inspect above the ceiling and found no leaks or dampness. It now appears to be spreading across the whole length of the ceiling but only on one side of the room where there is a window. The other side where there is another window is ok. Could it be the window?

You need more ventilation, and cut down on moisture-producing activities. Also check and top-up loft insulation above that ceiling.
