Hey Guys,

Nice to meet you all.

I'm looking for some advice on a bathroom project I'm doing for my other half at her place.

First things first, I've bought some tiles already and I even have some up already, the nearest bathroom place to me are these guys: http://www.tubsandloos.com

I'm a firm believer in going local for the things I buy.

Here's a picture of what I've done so far:

My first question for you is Black or White grout, white would stand out and black would fit in, the misses has left it up to me to pick.

The next question is to do with the picture below, as you can see the toilet has a boxed in tiled area, I have no idea what to do with it, so any ideas would be welcome !! Do I knock out all the wood and rehouse the pipes, and If I wanted a visible waste pipe is that actually legal or are there any regulations surrounding it, any help would be much appreciated.

PS sorry for making my first post such a marathon

Bit sus about this, your not just pushing tubs & loos are you?

I am known to be paranoid but it always looks sus if someone has a link to a commercial website buried in their very first post; links are permitted but we get a lot of spamming & it can be a complete waste of time.

To answer your questions;
No contest & without question, white grout; black grout on black tiles will look terrible, dark & oppressive. I have matt black slip tiles in my own kitchen with white grout.

No regulation preventing visible pipe work but that are you replacing the sink, w/c & re-tiling?

In the long run I'll be replacing the sink and the toilet, I'm just getting harassed about getting the tiles done, to me the rational thing to do is not worry till there swapped out.

White grout seems to be the consensus from work too, so I'll post the after pics in the morning, putting up the shower as well so it should look pretty good

You should replace the toilet & sink before you tile & depending on what toilet you have & what’s behind that grotty looking box will dictate how you proceed; must admit I’m not a fan of boxing in behind toilets, if it’s done correctly you shouldn’t need to.

There are many things to catch you out with tiling, particularly if your installing a shower or intend tiling a suspended timber floor; wet areas should also come in for special consideration, depending on the tile base. I would advise you read the Tiling Sticky & Forum Archive posts before doing any more work or buying more materials, it could prevent you making disastrous & potentially expensive mistakes. It’s important to use only quality trade tilling materials of the correct type for your tiles & tile base; cheapo own brand & DIY stuff is mostly crap.

Thanks for your help guys, I haven't looked inside the box yet, but from how grotty it is outside it cant be nice inside !!!

Check out the white grouting good choice I think !!

I'll take your advice and wait till we can do it all in one go I think. Got loads of advice from this forum !!!
