Black wood finish

probably starting with planed softwood, I want to make a combined bench/stool
SHMBO wants it black and glossy

What to use?
Black gloss
Black stain and varnish
Blackboard paint and varnish
Some kind of lacquer ?

Indoor use

Does SWMBO want the grain to show through?
'Yes' - then find a tin of Ebony (coloured) gloss varnish. (Google is your friend for that.) Two coats and then 1 or 2 coats of ordinary Gloss varnish.
'No' Black Gloss paint.
