BLOCKAGE IN PIPES

shes not got an immersion has she. i dont think well sort this over a keyboard. you'll have to take the plunge and get someone in.

ps everyone gets worn out

so heating ok but when hot water only is selected, the boiler fires but switches off?

and there any valves (2 port etc) on the hot water flow to the cylinder or thermostats on cylinder?

annie - IS THERE ANY WATER COMING OUT OF THE HOT TAPS :?

Will the cleaner be powerful enough to clear a sludge blockage between boiler and hot water cylinder or sludge around coil in tank - I think thats what I mean!!

Sounds like you have an airlock and need to remove the boiler stat and boil the water, but seeing as how its a back boiler you really need a heating eng.

thank you there is water in taps but it is cold. There are no diverter valves in system. It is 32 years old.Only a drain cock next to pump.

shes got immersion heater
Pipes cold to hw cylinder going in and coming out-still think is is blockage in tank or in pipe from boiler do you think this makes sense. If you have given enough advice thaks for your helpBest wishes Anne

Without knowing how your system is configured its difficult to make any useful suggestions.

The normal solution would be to call a competent heating engineer!

You said that you have "NO VENTS". If that means no air inlet vents then thats potentially very dangerous!

All 552s and similar boilers need ventilation vents direct to the outside otherwise they can produce carbon monoxide which can kill can kill!

i saw that too ag but a even a non tech person wouldnt mention no ventilation as a poss cause of no hw.

but yeah you need eyes on help

best of luck annie

be prepared as well.. if the boilers not been looked at for a while you may find the boiler gets turned off

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT
YOU HAVE ALL BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND POLITE TO A NON -TECHIE LIKE ME .
JUST TRYING TO SAVE MY MUM MONE THAT SHE DOESNT HAVE. CHEERS
