Hi
I have a small patio'd back garden and noticed last night when I emptied the bath water was coming out the drain on the patio. Then saw that water was backing up out of my kitchen drain as well and flooding the patio. Will this cost a fortune to fix? My dad has looked for the man hole but thinks either the previous owners have patio'd over it or it's shared with next door. Totally stressed ....got little funds at the moment.

Does this mean that the pipes could burst or something? As you can tell I know very little about this! I'm guessing the water board won't help because it's my responsibility

Advice anyone.

Ask your nieghbours if they have a problem also, phone your Utility company If it a shared drain it down to them to fix for you,

Stop stressing!!! If you can lift out a grid from a gully then you could try to clear it using a mop as a plunger

You've probably got it sorted by now, but for future reference, any shared drain is now the Water Co's responsibility to maintain. Have a look on your Water Co's website, most have pictures showing who's responsible for what.

Thanks for your advice. It's been fixed now I rang the water board and they sent out a contractor. The manhole was clear and the workman told me it was a private issue because it wasn't a shared drain or pipe that was the issue and therefore I was reaponaible. Thankfully he cleared the drain for me for FREE :) and told me not to tell his boss if I get any calls. Top bloke!
