I’m getting my gas fire pipes capped off soon and will be replacing the fire with an electric one. The main reason for this is the draft that comes in through the vent behind the fire is really bad in winter.

Is it just a case of bricking up the hole where the vent goes outside? Or do I have to think about insulting where the hole was?

The vent is there to prevent damp, if you want to risk it crack on. Are you sure it’s a vent and not a closure plate been left behind?

I’m not sure, there is a gas fire in situ and a draft, on the outside what looks like a vent/flu cover. I assumed an electric fire wouldn’t need this?

It’s not like an air brick

No the electric fire doesn’t need it. Apologies, I assumed chimney, if it’s just an additional vent, then, yes, can be bricked up.
