I’m moving home soon and have a double spigot on my sink waste. In order to prevent the new occupants flooding the kitchen accidentally, I’d like to seal the dishwasher spigot whilst still allowing the sink to drain. Doing it this way also simplifies dishwasher installation should they desire to do so. My waste is a standard 40mm pipe, but there are a profusion of products and I’m confused which is correct and too skint (like nearly everyone) to be making mistakes, or hiring plumbers, so please help internet.

Leave a note in the sink, so they're alerted to the problem and they need to solve it

Take a length of dish washer hose, cut a small section of the end off, bung/seal it and push it onto the spigot

Find something that will fit in the spigot end e.g a plastic wine cork

Buy another spigot for a couple of quid (check it comes with a blanking disc) or a blanking cap. Take the existing spigot into the shop with you to compare sizes of screw ends to avoid mistakes

Cut a disc of a plastic that can withstand boiling water without shrinking, eg from an ice cream tub lid or similar, and use it to blank off between the existing spigot and the rubber seal
