Hi All. I’m about to start on blocking up my old kitchen doorway. It’s on an external wall, double skin (no cavity I think but there does seem to be a void in places. It’s early 1900 so I don’t think there should be a cavity so the gap might not be intentional?). There’s a timber lintel on the inside but I’m not too sure on the external skin. Am I okay just blocking it up to the lintel or should that be removed? And do I need to hack off the render on the reveal or can I block up straight to the render? (I’m guessing it won’t tie in properly to painted render?)
I plan on using thermalite blocks for ease. Is that acceptable for an external wall? The exit is to a lean to & will be rendered anyway if that makes a difference?
