We’ve had a gas fire removed, and am wondering what an effective way to block up the massive draughty vent through the cavity wall, at least on the interior for now. House is ~17yrs old.

I was thinking expanding foam, trimmed then topped off with plasterboard or plaster/filler?

Don’t want to allow damp in.

Any advice appreciated!

If it goes to the cavity then just seal it how ever you want - cement. You should not have vents from inside to the cavity.

Was there also a flue for the fire? It appears to be in a strange location?
