Right got the eml on, glow plug flashing and dpf filter light on a seat leon 1.9tdi 2009 plate. Took it on motorway hoping it would clear but it didn't. Yesterday had a carbon clean done by a Midlands dpf cleaning service , car was hooked up to a machine for 90 minutes. Cost me £180, Bloke said that should do it. Took it on motorway still lights illuminated..any ideas guys before I throw more money on this car.?

Did they check the egr valve had same problem tdi caddy van egr packed up so had mapped out problem solved oh an a extra few bhp

These vehicles measure the exhaust pressure at the entrance to the dpf and again at the exit.
If the fault code was cleared - as per Andy’s advice- then we can assume the dpf cleaning wasn’t successful.
I have no experience of Terraclean or whatever so I can’t comment on how effective it is.
The egr system - as per gonch this time - is another diesel plague and it’s worth investigating this but it shouldn’t put the dpf lamp on.....but it will illuminate the management light and vehicle performance, including tickover, will suffer if the egr valve is stuck open with carbon.

This company did no checks before or after the carbon cleaning was done.i was assuming they'd do a diagnostic on it after to turn off any lights but the bloke doing didn't have diagnostic machine. Anyway I borrowed my friend's cheap diagnostic tool , i gotten eml to go off but the dpf light and glow plug light remain on. Weird thing is it took the car to the local garage I go to, they have the proper diagnostic kit. That didn't pick up any error codes at all..even though the dpf and glow plug light was on, he done it twice and still no errors found, infact it put on the eml on..weird?. I then connected my cheaper tool and got the eml to go off. Now I got only the dpf light on and the glow plug light only ..however my diagnostic tool picked up error see pic..its showing 1 of 2 error codes , but the second on is the same as in pic?

Does this help?

The most common repairs for a P2002 are as follows:
  1. Clearing the diesel particulate filter.
  2. Changing the diesel fuel.
  3. Replacing the diesel particulate filter.
  4. Replacing the back pressure sensor.

A widely overlooked cause for DPF blockage is over-cool running. The DPF will not attempt to regenerate if the engine has failed to reach operating temperature and if it is running too cool the engine will naturally generate more soot in any case. Use a cheap OBD2 diag tool to check the engine is running at 80 degrees plus in normal use.

So how do you know it's been done? That's like joining weight watchers and not weighing yourself before and after. Ask for proof or your money back.
Will ring them tomorrow. Temp reaches 90 degrees when I took it on motorway, car lacks power and is in limp mode. Gonna take car to another garage see whst they say..

You need to either buy a cable and copy of vcds or find someone local that has it, it will allow you to measure the dpf level and force a regen if it hasn't gone over a certain percentage.

If you have a laptop it's worth every penny if you own a vag group car

Bear in mind most manufacturers have their gauge read "in the middle" to keep the driver happy. It does not show actual temperature, a VW will show 90 on the gauge from just above 60 to just above 100 degrees before it shows much different. This is very obvious once the coolant temp is check via OBD

does the car start easily & quickly and remain running from cold but with no power? EGR valve needs replacing/cleaning.
If it's a poor starter then one or more Glow Plugs have failed (the glow plugs come into play when doing a DPF clearing run).
Is the engine a 'common rail' one? If so the High pressure pump is failing or you have a leak after the HP pump.

What makes you think it is getting to 90C? If it is from the dashboard gauge, they are designed to deliberately lie, you need to check it via the OBD socket, for an accurate genuine temperature reading.

What temp doe the Oil reach? That needs to be over 90-95 degrees for DPF regen to work effectively. (oil temp is available in the MFC display - step through the readings until found - doesn't show any temp until 50 degrees.)

Hey guys..can you recommend a dpf specialist in the West Midlands can sort this out for me. Around the Birmingham b10 area? Or if any of you guys are close to me..ta
