BMW mini auto

Has anyone any experience or opinions regarding the 5 door Mini auto?
I know the model was introduced in '07 & our available budget dictates a fairly early example, say '08/'09.
Any replies appreciated.

My sister in law had an 08 plate cooper dsg and it started to misbehave at 55k miles.
We traded the car in before any expenses came our way- it had fsh though.
Personally I'm scared stiff of these things!
