Hi,

I'm about to fit a new shower room and want to ply-board the walls and floor of the room before tiling. The walls are made up of both studwork, brickwork and blockwork.

Where it's studwork, I'll fix the board using screws, but I'm not sure how to fix the board to brickwork/blockwork given the weight which will be hanging on it? I don't want to dot&dab the board as I can't really afford to lose the extra 10mm.
Any advice?

Depending on the condition of the block / brick work I would give them a render coat with a waterproofer in, leaving a flat surface for the tiling to go on

You would never in any circumstance 'dot and dab' sheets of ply. The only way to fix it properly without rendering would be to batten out the wall and fix the ply to the battens.
