Hi im a total novice with diy but just a quick question. I would like to board out my loft. As the house is a new build, i mentioned this to the site manager when it was built and he said it is not possible due to the joists/ rafters or whatever only built to hold the roof plus a small amount of snow covering. Does this sound accurate or was he bending the truth in the hope i asked them to board it for me before we moved in?

Thanks for any help

Boarding out a new build loft would raise a couple of concerns certainly.

The builder won't want to do it because of liability if you did overload it. Also it would not allow sufficient insulation to be installed under the boarding - current standard is 270mm and your roof trusses are probably only 75mm deep.

From a practical perspective the design of the trusses may mean that there isn't a really usable area for storage anyway.

Probably best left until you move in and then you can make your own judgement. I can't advise about the actual design loading of the trusses but he isn't necessarily misleading you with what he has said.
