I never liked Bob Crow although, in his favour, I believe he was a supporter of UKIP!

Legend.

Heard him 'rally the troops' last september at Burston Strike School march.

A loss to the movement,

DH

I took the opportunity to highlight the 'workers' champion' and his liking for the high life, ie. Scotts Restaurant, Mayfair.

Hmmm, must admit I didn't like the chap. Over £100,000 a year (salary including expenses ) (and boy were there some expensive meals) A mate works on the railway and Bob Crow's aim was for RMT workers to enjoy a 30hr week (with no reduction in wages) However, he was an extremely good (and formidable) negotiator. RMT members have enjoyed some good wage rises in recent years . (better than most other industries)

Did a fine job, you have to give him that.
However, in any sensible day and age, a good chunk of it was "the wrong job", imo.

A left wing socialist who cared not a jot about the people his strikes and pay rises would affect.

Train drivers on £45k per year for a 35 hour week? Tube station staff doing menial jobs on £30k?
HGV driving is far more skilled and those guys earn nothing like that, plus they don't have rails to guide them.
No big loss.

Idiotic statement from an idiotic person.....

HGV far more skilled? how many HGV drivers do you know that carry hundreds of passengers?

Train drivers training, up to 18 months. HGV driver, 2 weeks?

So driving a train is more skilled in your book because it has hundreds of passengers?
That has to be the idiotic statement of the year.

18 months to train a train driver? Tosh.

Two weeks to train a hgv driver? Again tosh.

Its not that difficult to have trains automated with no drivers.
Try doing that with a truck!

Once you have been taken on as a trainee driver, you start your formal training period, which takes between nine and 18 months to complete. The whole process from application through to becoming a qualified train driver can take over 2 years. The role of a train driver is an extremely rewarding one, and with a bit of dedication and hard work, you can make sure you are not one of the 90% that fail.

What % of trainees pass their HGV test? You can research HGV training yourself and see how long it takes.

See whos talking tosh now? Again!

Unless you have a source to back that up I don't believe a word of it... so still tosh.

And hgv driving will always be a more skilled job even if it takes 5 years to train some monkey sitting snoozing at the controls of a train.
