boiler controlling itself

hi all-hope some can help out with my dodgy oil boiler..

radiators get really hot so i turn the temperature down on the wall mounted thermostat, which has no effect.

i turn the heating off on the boiler and the radiators are still hot..

i then turn the water off on the boiler and eventually the radiators cool down.

i had the boiler serviced in october and wasnt made aware of anything that might likely fail on it.

just wondering if anyone can tell me what part is not working on my boiler so i know i wont get stung when i call someone to come repair it...if i cant do it myself.

From what your saying it sounds like your 3 port valve is stuck in mid position. So when you call for hot water alone it heats your heating also

even when i have turned the hot water off it is still managing to feed the radiators.

would that still be the same thing?

if this fault is the 3 port valve, is it possible to operate the valve manually-in the short term, by removing the servo(?) that sits on top of it?

cheers

It all depends if the moter head is at fault or the valve itself is jammed. Im only guessing from what you said. I would need more info/ pictures
