I have an old corvec 45 Open flue boiler which I understand operates bacially on the principle of water flow rate = gas valve > operation then ignition.
My situation having moved into a recently purchased flat and only recently have been looking at the heating and hot water systems to get them up and running. I`ve discovered when the boiler is fired up and has been running for over an hour the radiators lack heat output also the hot water is supplied via a elson diamond indirect hot combined hot water / f&e heat cylinder where the hot water temperature too seems to lack of heat output.
The system has been drained down and flushed with the pump removed and re-filled and the same occurs with lack of heat output from both of the hot water and heating of the radiators.
I have looked closely at the boiler and I beleive the return flow is at a lower temperature than what it should be at and think if thats the case then this is why the hot water is lacking heat output.
This boiler seems very basic. I removed the thermostat capsule which basically is spring loaded and removed what I think is the thermostat small copper 1/4" round item with a copper split tail held by a rubber sleeve. ( If anyone is farmiliar with this boiler should the thermostat be in two parts as I`ve mentioned? ) or could it be broken?. Anyway, My idea was to remove this and get the system up and running to establish if more heat output would be generated without the thermostat in place which then would indicate the thermostat was the fault but the boiler wouldnt fire up with the thermostat removed no matter even when the system was filled and re-bleed. I now believe maybe due to this boiler works on the gas valve requires a min water flow then only when the thermostat is in place this ensures the correct flow rates are maintained for the gas valve to function.
I would welcome anyone who may be farmilar with this boiler to offer so advise and to confirm if with the thermostat removed would this cause the boiler not to operate.
