Now then my friends, back boiler in living room, old. Put water on and trips out. Took front off, gave it a good clean. Pilot light will now come on, but when I put water or heating on, runs for a while then big grey plunger on front jumps out and cuts it all off again.
Any ideas my friends for life if you can enlighten me! :(

the obvious thing is it need a service NOT a clean out as you put it

you should not be removing the fire front anyway BUT thats to late

if the gas valve is dropping out pilot is too small / dirty / badly adjusted

or the thermocouple if iffy

Thanks for that Kev, will give another shot with cleaner, then if no luck, Will try the plumber again.

I am not sure you fully appreciate what Kev has told you.

The boiler needs a proper service! That involves removing the fire which as it breaks the gas supply needs a qualified gas engineer.

Then the most important thing!

After reassembling the boiler/fire it needs to be tested by a gas qualified person to ensure the flue is working properly.

Then he needs to examine the permanent ventilation to ensure its working and meets the regulations.

Failure to do the last two can cause the boiler to produce carbon monoxide which can KILL YOU or your family!

My thanks for your concern, I was in no way being flippant in my remarks, The system was working yesterday. Our local plumber is known as "hens teeth" I have left sevral messages, my question was only if it could be something simple

By the way, I have only removed the body, the decorative front, I have not exposed the glass front to the boiler!

Its only a simple boiler so it can only be something simple!

However, the safety aspects are very important with that design. Open flued boilers are not permitted to be fitted anymore.

BBUs usually kill 2-3 people most years!

I dont want anyone advised on this forum to be one of them.
