Hi,

A British Gas engineer just came round as our boiler is leaking (plastic inside has corroded apparently) - its a worcester bosch greenstar. He told us that he was isolating the electric to make it safe given the leak - the electrics turned off while he was here but I did not realise they werent back on by the time he left. BG have been unhelpful and are sending someone tomorrow to fix the electrics. I have checked the fusebox which is fine, there is no electric to our house (sockets, appliances in kitchen etc) bar the lights in the house. Does anyone know what could have caused this and whether we can fix it tonight ourselves, or whether someone needs to open up the boiler?

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Check again .How is power supplied to boiler ? Photo?

You unscrew the little rectangle on the plate and the rectangle can be opened where the fuse can be removed.
That is what he should have done to isolate the boiler.

Your issue might be unconnected with the boiler being isolated or it could be that while doing it he caused your RCD or breaker to trip.
As hasbeen asked, post aphoto of your consumer unit, showing all the levers inside.
If they are mostly up and one is down then that is the culprit, switching it up may restore your power.

I seriously doubt it. Might have deteriorated or pinholed, but plastic doesn’t corrode.

The boiler should have a Fused Connection Unit and that could have been spurred off of the mains ring and that ring has either been shut off or tripped but even then, as suggested, then just that fuse should have been removed. Unless the unit itself was in danger of being soaked.

TBH BG should have known better and everything should have been checked/tested before he left.
