I'm currently re-designing my kitchen and planning for the boiler to move to a new position.
It is currently taking up space in a larder unit which makes it tough to use it for anything else. So we are planning to get someone in as part of getting a new boiler anyway to put it in a wall unit.
The internal dimensions of the wall unit are about 564mm wide x 910mm tall x 290mm depth
These wall units run all the way up to the ceiling without a gap and the plan is to have the pipes come down from above.
It is an external wall and the flue can elbow directly out of the house from the top of the boiler in the new position we have planned.
We are hoping to get a Worcester Bosch regular heat only boiler installed.
The house is a detached, 4 bed, 2 bath property, 1950's build. 12 radiators in total.
Basic questions I hope someone can help with:
1. Is it practical to have a boiler enclosed in a wall unit? If so, any special considerations I should plan for when redesigning the surrounding area / pipes etc?
2. Which Worcester Bosch boiler is most suitable for my needs? I have seen the Greenstar 30Ri which would be my best guess (but I am no expert!)
3. The existing (very old) boiler has gas supplied in 15mm. Do new boilers need 22mm gas supply? if so, will I need to plan for someone to come in and run 22mm from the meter to the new boiler position?
4. What is the best practice for the use of push fit / poly pipe (or equiv.) near the boiler. I think I was once told that copper must be used for at least one metre from the boiler... but I could be very wrong!
