We have an Alpha 240E combi boiler, which intermittently makes loud 'clicking' noises for a period of time when the central heating is on. It can be doing it for an hour or more and then stop for a while. The heating works fine, but I'm concerned that something could be wrong.

I've had an engineer round to look at it, and he gave the boiler a quick once over and said it was fine. I explained the clicking and his attitude was "it's not clicking right now *shrug*" Since it wasn't, I didn't really feel that I could insist he found out what was wrong...

I've asked my landlord if it's always done it, and he said he vaguely remembers it but wasn't sure.

pipes expanding as they heat up often cause clicking noises, once hot it stops. might be your problem.
