Boiler problem/Power

Hi

Woke up this morning and we have no hot water ?

All the lights on the boiler have gone out, but the lights on the socket/swith are still on, and the timer/thermostat still has power.
I assume that the power to the boiler is ok, and it must be a problem inside the actual boiler.

I dont know anything about heating systems, and i'm looking for a diagnisis of the problem. PLEASE HELP !

PS. The boiler Is an Ideal, Isar.

Start of with taking plug out and putting it back in, and toggle all switches a few times. After that you will need an electrical tester, and the skill to use one safely.

Hi bengasman, & thanks for the quick reply.

There is no plug to take out, unless you mean the one in the mains ??

Anyway, i swithed it all of and tapped and toggled a little bit, and i noticed a little water drip out of the bottom. I have taken off the fron and there seems to be some water sitting on the inside base of the boiler, any ideas/suggestions ??

Yep. I meant the mains. Water coming out of the bottom makes me fear the worst for the electronics though.

Call Ideal in on a fixed price £210 repair.

Probably the pcb shot.

No local could do it for this price

HELLO AGAIN. caps.

On closer inspection, it seems like the water is leaking from where the diverter valve joins the DHW plate heat exchange ?? Also, when i have dropped the PCB from the clamp, it does have a certain burnt/singed smell to it ?? kind of like the smell you get when a dewalt drill motor has overheated.

I think i best ring Ideal for £210.

Any more suggestions ??

They will also offer a £299 repair that includes a 12 month service package.

IMO you would be best to take this option

Thanks for all he help guys, ive just spoken to ideal d got all the info, it was £240 for the one off repair or £26.50 per month for 12 month cover, OR i could shop around and go with Npower (who are our provider) or british gas.

What do you reckon ???

If it is the hex, ideal will not repair it for £210, but will charge £400 - £500

Everything is now covered for the fixed price repair.

I've had 4 replaced recently for the £210 fixed price repair, all about 4 years old

OP, I would recommend sticking with Ideal for the breakdown contract. Their engineers know these inside out and will nearly always have the parts on the van for a first time fix.

NPower will probably just sub it out to one of us

That is interesting, I would love to know why they have added response heat exchangers for 210 quid, must be a loss making exercise.
Can't be to save the reputation of the response either
When did they add this option? Less than a year I think that one of my clients payed £450 for it. Took them about 2 weeks as well

I can't say whether the old response HE is covered. I though they fitted a new boiler (an Isar) for about £450 to replace responses

We ended up going with the 12 month option for 26.50 a month, and they are coming out tomorrow to repair the boiler, it wont be as much for cover next year tho, only about £108 which seems well worth it to me.

I'm just glad we have family near by so we can call for a shower tonight before hitting the town,
