Boiler scorching old worksurface

I have an old non-combi boiler, which is installed under a worktop in the kitchen (its a rear flued boiler)..

I removed the old worksurface and fitted a new one yesterday... and only realised after doing it that the old one (as I was cutting it up) was blackened and scorched above the boiler.. and the laminate was peeling on the back edge at that point..

I have to admit I haven't checked the clearance yet (I'll dig out the manual and make sure) but I assume its fitted properly and OK (It was fitted for the previous owner by BG)

Is there some kind of heat deflecting sheet I can apply to stop it burning the new worksurface? If so what's it called.. I've tried googling heat proof matting, shielding and all sorts of things like that in relation to boilers and flues and couldn't find anything.. (though there's plenty for cars)

Someone mentioned a cover plate I think for a similar problem in another post.. but they seem to be when the flue is coming out the top.. which mine doesn't..

Is it safe to reflect the heat back at the top of the boiler like this? (I'm assuming since the top is the burner etc it should be ok.. as the gas and the electrics are at the bottom.)

Thanks

My crystal ball is in the van.... can you tell us what the boiler is, when it was last serviced (properly) and when you have checked - what the clearance actually is?

Sorry about that (I was more just looking for the name of something I can stick under there to reflect the heat and if its safe to do that)

Its a Baxi Solo 3 PFL 30, the clearance is 130mm (the manual recomends 55mm on top according to the PDF I have just checked), it was serviced about 8 months ago by british gas..

(It's also possible the scorching is from the old boiler.. and nothing to do with this one - the worksurfaces have been in for YEARS by the state of them)

They were probably referring to a closure plate...

As for the scorching... I suppose it depends how long it took to build up and how severe it is. It is not a good thing to have though!

Thanks for that, I think that is the thing.

I think I'm going to get someone out to have a look and see what they think as it probably shouldn't be getting that hot. (it was quite severe over a significantly sized area)
