So the answer to this question is if you have an old boiler & it's working well why rip it out & chance that the new one will be as reliable?

Wait till it packs up & then consider a new one,

What do combi owners do when it packs up & they can't put an immersion heater on that's what I want to know

Just thought you might like a bit of an update on the petition.

There is now a website to promote the idea and it is not only getting a lot of industry support, but support from environmentalists as well.

Because the industry doesn't think it's a good idea.

When they start making boilers that are more reliable than the rubbish that's been on the market for the last 10 years, then and only then, Perhaps

Why do you think the manufacturers support the idea, nothing to do with them making a killing on spare parts by any chance.

I've a customer who's running an old Ideal E type 100 RS, I think. Boiler must be 35 years old and is done as is the hot water cylinder and the two motorised valves. Heating system is full of sludge and he now has a leak on his utility/boiler room roof which has caused the pump to fail and blown the electrics on his heating and his old mechanical time-clock is running about 30 mins slow a day.

His pump was replaced with a Grunfoss 15-60 18 months ago by me after a fight with his old one which was a 180 mm pump. Fitted the new pump, another Grundfoss, today and the roof is still leaking and I'm not entrirely convinced the pump failure was just down to the electrics.

His gas bills are a fortune( about £2K a year) and I've sent him two quotes to replace the boiler in the past two years but he believes those people who tell him not to change the boiler cause it's 'bomb proof' but the longer he leaves it the more money he is spending on repairs and gas.

There is no talking to some people but if he wants to keep throwing money at me for repairs that is up to him, he can't say he hasn't been told to upgrade most of his money is being wasted heating the sludge in the system as there is very little heat transfer to the rads relative to what there would be with a new boiler and a PF.

Total waste of recourses and money but the guy has plenty of it.

Tony.
