Boiler thinks that hot water is still being supplied, no CH

Have an Ariston Genus HE Combination Boiler. The issue is that the boiler still intermittently thinks it is supplying Hot water and leaves 'summer mode LED' on, eventhough no Hot water is flowing. Because of this the Heating does not come on. Turning a hot water tap on and off a few times seems to switch it back (if you are lucky). The engineer diagnosed/replaced the Diverter Valve, but this has made no difference.
Any ideas please?
