Morning folks,
Not sure what to do with this one - re-fitting a bathroom for my Dad, and one of the jobs is putting in a shower pump to boost the pressure.

I'm aware of part P and the solution I'm doing avoids any need to get it signed off (in a nutshell the pump is outside of the bathroom in a cupboard, and the power for the pump will be supplied via the installed pump flex to an RCD protected socket that is already in place (have to change the face-plate on it to an RCD one but that's it).

The house wiring is fairly old (about 25-30 years), and while it's fine in terms of condition, there's no earth bonding to the rising main.

Sooo - should I: -

A) cross-bond the pipes with 6mm earth wire and lead that back to a suitable earthing point on a circuit (While I'm confident enough to do this it does set off alarm bells on my "shady" radar). Or
B) Do nothing.

I know strictly speaking I should be advisin my Dad to get the whole house brought up to spec, but he's not going to do that just yet, so I'm loooking for the best way to make what I'm fitting safe.

Any suggestions

Cheers Comms - so if I understand it right, you only have to bond in bathrooms etc if a piece of electrical kit is within that room / zone? So it's now to do with electrical kit being connected to a metal pipe I assume then??

Ok - if that's the case I will do nothing 8)

Much appreicated

what comms is saying is your not legaly obliged to as you havent done any electrical work in the bathroom. however, the bathroom is not up to standard as anything that could bring a voltage in (eg pipes -now even more so as you have put a new electrical pump in) should allready be bonded.

you are able to do the bonding yourself, bonding doesnt come under part p. you may be wise to do the main bonding (gas and water where they come into the house) whilst you are there. -whilst not legaly obiliged it will make things safer (if done correctly).

Okidoki - I'll strongly suggest to my dad that I should do all the pipes...

So 4mm for the cross bonding - and 10mm for the MET to gas and water pipes..... And a nice crawl under the floor... Oh joy

Cheers folks...
